I am a graduate and faculty member of Tai Sophia Institute for the Healing Arts, the oldest and first institution to have a masters program in acupuncture. They have grown into a national center for graduate education in complementary medicine. Prior to studying acupuncture I spent over 40 years in business specializing in support services for individuals with developmental disabilities, personal administration/management and business development. As an avocation, I have been a FAA Certified Flight Instructor for over 35 years. I was introduced to acupuncture after being involved in an aircraft accident that changed my direction in life.

I was a patient of a graduate of Tai Sophia Institute. I began to receive acupuncture treatments to aid in the healing of two broken legs, the result of piloting a private aircraft during a night emergency crash landing caused by a catastrophic engine failure. A few days after my accident, I was told by my surgeon at Baltimore Shock Trauma, that although my wife and I had miraculously survived the accident, I had almost died due to the trauma of the incident and could very well have lost at least one leg due to infection and the severe fractures to my legs.

Acupuncture had a major effect in saving my legs and provided an emotionally stabilizing influence during my many months of recovery. The personal concern, technical competence, exceptional partnership I experienced from my acupuncturist was a life transforming experience for me. I realized with absolute clarity that the next step in my life was to offer this work to others.

Now as a licensed practitioner treating my own patients, I have witnessed the powerful healing potential that acupuncture offers for a wide range of conditions. Working together in partnership with my patients has captured my soul’s passion and has ignited enthusiasm in my life that is immensely gratifying.

My accident resulted in a very real near death experience making a space and importance for new commitments. For me, these commitments need to be founded in returning something to society in gratitude for my reawakened life.
